Wedding Engagement Announcements

Some families still follow the tradition of making the wedding engagement announcements public by placing an advertisement in the "Births, Deaths and Marriages" section of the local or metropolitan newspaper.

Tradition has it that the bride's parents take care of this, but today as many couples are working they may choose to place and pay for the engagement notice themselves, so the decision is up to you.

Here are some basic rules to follow when announcing your engagement in the newspaper:
  • Send the announcement to the chosen newspaper at least one week before it is to appear, giving a date of when you want it to appear.
  • Give the newspaper a contact number in case they have any queries.
  • Makes sure the engagement information is clearly written or typed, and all names are correctly spelt.

Look in your local newspaper to get more ideas of how to word your engagement announcement.

When you have placed your engagement announcement don't forget to keep a copy of the wedding engagement announcement for a keepsake.

Wedding Tip
#2

If you are on a tight budget use lots of greenery.

Greenery is inexpenvise and will make a great filler and you will use less flowers.

Try using potted plants and shrubs such a ficus trees which can be rented.

You may even have your own fake trees at home, or you could borrow from friends and family.

These will look charming when lit with tiny lights.
