Some families still follow the tradition of making the wedding engagement announcements public by placing an advertisement in the "Births, Deaths and Marriages" section of the local or metropolitan newspaper.
Tradition has it that the bride's parents take care of this, but today as many couples are working they may choose to place and pay for the engagement notice themselves, so the decision is up to you.
Here are some basic rules to follow when announcing your engagement in the newspaper:
1. Send the announcement to the chosen newspaper at least one week before it is to appear, giving a date of when you want it to appear.
2. Give the newspaper a contact number in case they have any queries.
3. Makes sure the engagement information is clearly written or typed, and all names are correctly spelt.
