Follow this wedding cake guide as you make your own wedding cake.

A wedding fruit cake recipe is the base for the traditional wedding cakes that are covered in marzipan and fondant icing. These cakes can then decorated with royal icing pipe work, sugar or fresh flowers. Stored carefully these cakes will keep in good condition for up to 12 months.

We cut the top tier of our beautiful wedding cake three years after our wedding. It stored well. I did check the cake every six months to see that it was still in good condition. It was not as moist as it was on our wedding day, but it did taste still taste very nice.
