How to Care for Your Rings

All wedding rings need some care. If you have chosen one with a diamond, it will need to be stored so that it will not scratch your other jewelery set with precious stones, including other diamonds.

Stronger metals stored with weaker metals may become worn down. Keep your bands in a jewelery box that has separate compartments, and consider using a jewelery roll when you travel.

Once a year take it to your jeweler to have the setting checked, and if the stone is not secure in the mounting have it repaired. When doing the dishes, washing your hands, applying hand cream or gardening remove it.

Chemicals such as chlorine can cause pitting and discoloration in the setting. Also having soapy fingers could make it slip of your finger and disappear down the drain. Don't handle it by the stone. Handle it by the shank.

Dazzling Diamonds

The more that you wear your diamonds, the more often you should clean them, they accumulate dirt due to coming in contact with soaps, lotions, and your natural skin oil.

Wedding Rings

When you purchase your bands ask the jeweler for his or her recommendations regarding the cleaning and care of your diamonds. Any metal will deteriorate or become damaged if it is worn constantly.

The standard method of cleaning diamonds is to fill a cup with a 50-50 solution of cold water and ammonia. Soak the diamonds for about half an hour, then remove and give a gentle tap around the front and back of the setting with a toothbrush. Swish it in the solution one more time and leave to dry.

If this sounds to fiddly, talk to your jeweler about the commercial jewelery cleaners available. Every time you clean your diamonds (about every six weeks) make sure that you check the setting. If the setting is not secure take it to your jeweler and have it fixed.
