Origami Favor Box

A homemade origami favor box is the ideal container for candies, soaps, candles and scented satchels of potpourri. These can be made to match or complement your wedding colors.

The origami favor box is quick and easy to make. Select paper that is not too thin or too thick, if it is too thin the box will not be sturdy and if it is too thick it will be too hard to fold.

If you are making a large quantity of these creative wedding favors organize a mini workshop with your bridesmaids a few weeks before the wedding to have them made.

What you will need to make one box

For the base of the box one 29cm (11 1/2 inch) x 29cm (11 1/2 inch) of card stock or patterned paper

For the lid of the box one 30.5cm (12 inch) x 30.5cm (12 inch) of card stock or patterned paper

Pencil and ruler

Ribbon to decorate the finished box
Note: you can use the same or contrasting colors to make the base and lid of the box.

Instructions

Step 1
To make the base of the box.
Diagonally mark the back of the 29cm (11 1/2inch) piece of paper or card stock lightly with a pencil to find the center point.

Step 2
Fold each corner into the center of the paper. You should now see the pattern of the paper on top.

Step 3
Fold the right and left sides of the square into the center, so that the edges meet in the center.

Step 4
Now fold the top and bottom edges of the square into the center, so that the edges meet in the center.

Step 5
Undo the previous to steps.

Step 6
Undo the top and bottom flaps as pictured.

Step 7
Fold in point A to touch with point C.

Step 8
Fold in point B to touch with point C.

Step 9
Fold D and E into each other and do the same for F and G. Then tuck into top flap.

Step 10
Repeat steps 7, 8 and 9 to complete the box base. Add a little glue to the bottom of the flaps to keep in place.

Step 11
The base of the box in now complete.

To make the top of the box follow the above steps using the 30.5cm (12 inch) card stock or paper.

Completed favor box decorated with a satin ribbon.

Finished size of the box is 10cm (4 inch) in length, 10cm (4 inch) wide and 5 cm ( 2 1/2inch) high.
