Orchids make up one of the largest families in the plant kingdom with over 20 000 species. In the nineteenth century, they were very much sought after for their exquisite beauty. Orchids have always been considered a luxury. The commercially grown varieties of orchids can take up to six years before they start to flower and then only produce about four stems of flowers a year. I have some lovely images of orchid bouquets which I would like to share with you.
