Are you
confident
enough to do
your own make up? Or will you have a professional make-up artist do
your face.
In either
case
you should always
do a trial
run on your makeup to perfect the look in the weeks leading up to your
wedding. Your wedding day is not the time to experiment with a new
brand of makeup, always test it weeks before the wedding to see if it
“agrees” with your skin.
When
selecting
the look, have a
realistic idea
of how that particular make-up style will suit your face. Keep the
makeup simple and clean.
Keep lips pretty natural, as very
dark and bright lip color are not always flattering in photos.
Try to stay away from bold colors on your eyes as well.
Preferably use an oil-free foundation.

Use good quality products
that
will last.
Remember to take a small touch up bag with you on the day; it should
contain lipstick, hairspray, tissues, perfume, comb and what ever else
you need.
Decide if you are to have
your
bridesmaids’ make-up to look similar to yours or different.
The challenge is to create a look that will make heads turn and still
look natural and not harsh.
Some makeup artists will
come to
your home.
The make-up is usually done after your hairstyling. You should have a
trial done before the wedding to get the colours to suit your
complexion.
When applying your makeup
on your
wedding day,
be sure to have your gown covered with a smock or cloth. To avoid
staining your dress, apply the makeup first, cover your head with a
cloth or silk scarf and then slip the gown over your head.
Face
Your make-up
should match your overall look.
Highlight your eyes or lips
Keep your makeup a matt look, as this will last longer and photograph
better than glittery and pearlised make-up.
Foundation should be applied first with a sponge and remember the
sunscreen if your wedding is outside. Follow with a concealer, which
should be applied with a brush. Set both the foundation and concealer
with loose powder.
Avoid using a concealer and powder which is to light for your
skin tone, it can make you look “washed out”
especially if
you are wearing a pure white dress.
Use a matt eye shadow (which matches your hair color) to define your
eyebrows it will give a more natural look than a pencil.
If you prefer to use a pencil, smudge the color inside the eyebrow
outline to give a softer look. Use an eyelash curler and then two coats
of mascara, (making sure that each of the lashes is separated) will
open the eyes.
Lips
For the base
coat use a lip fix.
Outline the lips and then fill in with a liner that matches the color
of your lips.
Use a brush to evenly apply the lipstick.
Blot with tissue paper and add a little powder.
Add the liner again and one more coat of lipstick
To keep your teeth from getting lipstick on them put a little Vaseline
on them.
Wearing Glasses
Look at your face with the
glasses on. Decide
if the glasses minimize or maximize your eyes. If your eyes are
minimized, you may want to emphasize your eyes with a little more
make-up for extra impact.
If the glasses maximize
(makes
the “most” of your eyes) you don’t want
to go to heavy on the make-up.
If you have glasses with
colored
frames, you
may want to use neutral colors of make-up. Or you may want a change and
try a new style of frame for your wedding.
Your foundation can get
rubbed
away with
glasses so make sure that you carry your foundation with you, so that
you can apply some quick touch ups during the day.
Covering a Tattoo
If you decide that you
don’t want your
tattoo to show on your wedding day buy a good concealer. Find a thick
and yellow based medical concealer, which is used to concealing
scars.
Try to get the concealer in
three
different
shades, one that is close to your skin tone and the other two in two
different lighter shades.
Use a brush to apply the lightest concealer first, covering only the
tattoo, then add the next light shade over the top followed by the one
that is closest to your skin tone, then set this with some loose powder
which is close to your skin tone.
Perfume
Will you be
wearing your everyday perfume or will you try out a new
fragrance for your wedding? Whatever you decide, it should reflect the
way you feel on the day.
Don’t overdo it with the perfume.
The idea is to have a whiff of the scent, and not
‘blow’ people away with an overpowering aroma.
Keep your soap, talc, body cream and perfume in the same fragrance.
Layering your scent will also help make the perfume last.
Apply the perfume before you put on your gown.
