Hiring the Wedding Entertainment

Before you go ahead and hire any one check with the ceremony and reception venues if there are any restrictions, such as:

  • Are there any restrictions on the amount of electrical equipment that can be used, such as extra lighting, amplifiers etc?

  • Are there any noise restrictions?

It doesn’t matter what type of entertainers you have for your ceremony or reception. But you must know and be aware of what type of performer that will be turning up at your wedding.

You need to know exactly what you want:

  • The type of music you want played?

  • How long you want the musician to play for?

  • Do you want to have non musical performers at your reception?

  • What type of non musical entertainment do you want?

  • Do you want to hire a band or DJ?

By answering these questions and any other that you can think of it will be a lot easier, when it comes to making your choices.

With the wide variety of entertainers available it is hard to choose music that will please everyone. If you choose a selection from every era of music, you will keep the atmosphere lively and the dance floor full.

For musical references, ask other brides, talk to local wedding professional, and search online.

If you want live music make sure that there are no restrictions. When researching ‘live’ performers make sure that they can play or learn the songs that you want played at your wedding. To do this you will need to book them early so that the band will have a chance to learn the new pieces.

Using a DJ at your wedding will provide you with any sort of music you wish to hear. Some DJ’s will act as the Master of Ceremony for the evening, and if they are good will help bring the crowd to ‘life’. A DJ can provide both the music for the ceremony and the reception.

Classical and Jazz performers are great for setting the mood at the reception, they can range from a soloist, jazz trio, flautist, string quartet, and pianist. If you are looking for a string quartet or flautist to play at your wedding, try contacting the local university’s music department. There may be some students who are willing to play at your wedding.

Check out the performers, by seeing them live at one of their performances, or view videotapes of their work.

Wedding Tip
#2

If you are on a tight budget use lots of greenery.

Greenery is inexpenvise and will make a great filler and you will use less flowers.

Try using potted plants and shrubs such a ficus trees which can be rented.

You may even have your own fake trees at home, or you could borrow from friends and family.

These will look charming when lit with tiny lights.
